Car top carrier comparison! You be the expert!
Compare car top
carrier models here
I've studied almost every car top carrier on the market and there are REAL problems
with cheap and "name brand" CTCs. Here's the scoop on car top
carrier comparisons. 10 minutes on this page and YOU will be a car top carrier
expert!
We get calls all the time, "I'm on vacation my carrier ripped can you
get me a Piggy Pack fast?" Cheap bags use thin material. The straps
break or the bag material gives out.
Piggy-Pack vs. other car top bags (baggies)
Other "name brand" roof bags are made of thin nylon or cotton material,
and only last for one or two uses.
They rip easily and nylon rots in the sun. Cheap bags weigh about 1.5 lbs.
PP Classic weighs 8 lbs. and is made of thick durable Hydro-Tough. PP has a two year
warranty, UV resistant, & totally waterproof with our special liner system.
Our straps StrapRight aren't sewn into the bag and won't cause rips.

Picture above "inside a cheap bag" purchased for
$49 at major store. Notice all of the white dots. These holes let rain water in and are the
beginning of dangerous rips. This represents one of many similar spots on this
bag. Also notice a "shadow" of thread showing through very thin material.
Our competitors make car top bags with a regular zipper under a flap which
allow rain to leak in. Cheap bags always
warn you about using them in the rain. PP
Classic has a unique folding, water tight closing system, and optional waterproof
liner system. With the liner, PP Classic is watertight, your gear is protected.
Piggy Pack has a US Patent!

Notice the fold down closure in this picture of Piggy Pack Classic - Water can NOT
penetrate this system. Also, there are no seams (which allow seepage) on the front, top or bottom. NO other car top carrier is made
this well to protect your gear.
Piggy Pack sport has a special ZipRight zipper system,
it has a zipper built into the flap that repels water. See
pictures the special ZipRight closure.
Many roof bags are poorly constructed, with single seams that are ragged.
PP has finished seams, dual stitching along
the edges, reinforced handles, & box stitched straps. You can see & feel PP quality, inside
and out.
The cheap bags DO NOT hold up. If (when) their thin material
breaks down on your trip, you are hosed. Speaking of hosed,
their 'soft fleece material' soaks up water like a sponge adding lots of
weight to your car stressing your luggage rack and straps. It's a
gimmick. Also notice other bags have lots of straps and buckles sewn
into the bag. This creates more needle holes that leak,
unnecessary noise if they aren't used, and potential source for tears. Piggy
Pack StrapRight (TM) strapping system is fast, efficient, easy to use and allows you to
load any PP on any luggage or sport rack system!
NEWS FLASH. I just purchased an inexpensive "waterproof" car
top carrier to
test their claims. The material is thin, like a disposable poncho you might
get at a ball game. It has a small flap over a zipper and straps that aren't
very well attached. I'll bet this manufacturer doesn't use their own product. Water blows up the
side of this CTC and through the zipper soaking your gear.

You are now inside the cheap bag mentioned above. What
you're seeing is light shining thru the zipper, about a 10 inch section of over
90 inches of zipper. Where you see light, expect water to get in.
Lots of it.
Only Piggy-Pack Classic, Sport 1 & 2, RZ100, & RoadMaster have StrapRight (TM) strapping system that allows
you to carry skis, fishing poles, & snowboards on top !
Our carriers offer an optional Kryptonite locking system !
Only the Classic Carrier fits any vehicle luggage rack, and most
vehicles without a luggage rack utilizing the car clips.
Piggy-Pack liner makes our car top carriers totally waterproof.
The RoadMaster is completely waterproof. No other car top carriers
match our products.
Piggy Pack owners are smarter and generally better
looking than owners of other bag or box systems.
Piggy-Pack vs. Roof Boxes (Car Coffin)
Roof boxes are expensive. $300 to $600
plus the special bars, nuts & bolts to attach them that cost another $125. That's
$425 to almost $275. Piggy Packs costs a whole lot less.
Roof boxes are heavy and can take hours to install. Our
carriers can be packed and installed in under 15 minutes. NO TOOLS, use
your bare hands ! Watch the paint on the car,
don't drop that wrench installing the box !
Roof boxes aren't convenient if you have to leave them on your car even
when you don't need them. PP is on and off fast.
Hmm, wonder if I can fit in that parking garage? Many vehicles with
roof boxes can't even fit into their own garages.
Our carrier bags fold down small, keep them in your
trunk.
Roof boxes take up lots of space when you don't want to use them. If you
live in an apartment or in the city, RoadMaster &
Piggy Pack are your best solutions.
Roof boxes are heavy. Your luggage rack has a
limited load capacity. PP is light and allows
you to use your luggage rack's weight limit on gear.
Roof boxes have been known to blow off of cars. Some
luggage racks can't take them. If the box sticks out over the windshield,
updraft can rip that thing right off. RoadMaster and
Piggy Pack sit on the roof, they don't cause problems with luggage racks if you
stay within their weight limits.
Security? Any car top box can
be opened with a screwdriver. PP & RoadMaster can be easily taken
off and stowed in your hotel room or inside the car at night in 10
minutes. We do offer an optional lock preventing casual theft during
restaurant and gas stops.
