Pack-Right Car Back Cargo Carrier
Saddlebag for your car!

car back carrier saddlebag

Order Cargo Saddlebag $149 includes shipping:

Material: Saddlebag car back carrier is made with the best materials and highest quality craftsmanship. The material is Hydro-Tuff, polyester with vinyl backing. Water does not permeate the fabric & it does not fade in the sun. It's like back-pack material.

Size: Saddlebag is approximately 28" high, 22" wide, and 40" long.  It holds over 14 cubic feet, or about the size of an medium car trunk. It folds smaller than one cubic foot.  Weight:  12 lbs            Color     Black

Attachment Methods (2 different ways):  Two inch webbing straps run underneath the Saddlebag and are angled up the sides and attach to your vehicle's luggage rack using sturdy side release buckles.  Saddlebag "hangs" from the luggage rack.  The bottom should be adjusted to rest on your back bumper.  Two bottom straps attach to your bumper, hitch (or anything) to prevent swaying side to side.  A third, 29' long 2" webbing can be placed under the bag and up to the forward luggage rack to distribute the load.  This third strap can also be placed through the back door and around the bag pulling the weight against the back door and providing additional stability.

NOTE:  If you don't have a luggage rack, order our optional "car clips J hooks."  Vinyl coated steel hook can hang on the top of your rear door.  While our J hooks have 1" strap slots and the Saddlebag has 2" wide straps you will have to adjust the straps that come with the J hooks to accommodate the wide straps. See bottom of this page for detailed directions.

Zippered closure:  Zipper runs 3/4 around the top for easy loading and easy access to gear.  Two zipper pulls with pull cords.

Tips & Tricks:  1. If you can't find something to attach the anti sway straps to underneath your vehicle, hardware like the U bolts above can easily be added to your bumper with a drill and small wrench.  I added these to the plastic bumper on a Town & Country and it works great.

2.  For easier loading and bottom support you can remove the flexible plastic bottom, use it as a template and cut  3/8" plywood to fit the bottom.  Sand the sides and edges.  I also added a stiff thin plank to the outside edge for added rigidity. (One customer even added small wheels through the bag bottom to the plywood).

3.  Make a light weight frame of PVC tubing.  This gives the bag shape and holds it open for real easy loading.  Don't glue the joints so you can take it apart for storage.

Water proof...weather resistant, what's the deal?

Saddlebag cargo carrier is made of durable Hydrotuff which is both water and UV resistant.  Hydrotuff itself is actually waterproof, but the bag is stitched together for strength.  Riding behind the car, it won't take the 70mph winds like a car top carrier. Most water will not get into the Saddlebag.  Lakeland offers an optional waterproof liner made of nylon taffeta with taped seams.  Using the liner inside the Saddlebag will keep your gear totally dry.

NOTICE about your vehicle's back door: Once this carrier is packed and installed on your car you do not have easy/fast access to the back door.  We DO NOT recommend people ride in the back with only access through the back door.  Limit your load to about 80 lbs or the max. weight limit of your luggage rack.  Inspect and test the Saddlebag before you leave on your trip.

Car Clip J Hooks:   If you don't have a roof luggage rack you can order our J hooks and hang them in the slot at the top of your rear door.  The J hooks have a one inch slot, the Saddlebag has 2 inch straps.  You can use the 1" straps that come with the hooks to make small two inch loops to pass the Saddlebag straps through.  You could also get large stainless steel split-ring key rings and run them through the slot.  The goal is to attach something strong to pass the larger straps through.  Please if this seems confusing don't attempt it.  However our J hooks are strong enough if you can apply your "engineering" skills.
